Aistear Síolta Practice Guide

About Aistear Síolta Practice Guide

This guide has been developed to support practitioners in using Aistear The Early Childhood Curriculum Framework (2009a) and Síolta The National Quality Framework for Early Childhood Education (2006) together and assist them to develop the quality of their curriculum to better support children’s learning and development.

The Aistear Síolta Practice Guide is based upon the understanding that settings are already compliant with/working towards being compliant with The Child Care (Pre-School Services) (No. 2) Regulations (Department of Health and Children (DHC), 2006).

The Practice Guide contains several resources that support practitioners in;

• critically reflecting on curriculum and identifying what works well
• identifying priorities for development
• planning actions for positive change

The Practice Guide can be used for on-going review, development and improvement by individual practitioners, practitioners working together and by practitioners who are being supported by a mentor. The Practice Guide can also be used by the staff of Better Start and other early years’ specialists in the sector who are working in a support or mentoring role.

Although the Practice Guide has been developed mainly for practitioners working in full day-care and sessional settings including Naíonraí and Early Start Units in primary schools, others such as; parents, childminders, early childhood students, trainers and lecturers might also find some of the materials beneficial.
