Introduction - Healthy Ireland Smart Start

This Pre-school Health Promotion training programme is the result of over a decade of collaborative working led by the HSE Department of Health Promotion and Improvement in partnership with National Childhood Network, to ensure children in the pre-school settings are supported to adopt healthy lifestyle behaviours in early childhood. The Training Programme reflects the aim of the Healthy Ireland Framework >> to bring all people together into a national movement with a single aim to ensure the best possible health and well-being of our nation.  Take a look at the following video which will give you a good insight into how other pre-school practitioners have experienced the programme.

This programme consists of 6 units:-

Your agreement to an Assessment Visit to establish how the service has     implemented and made sustainable the learning from the programme and to achieve recognition to become a Healthy Ireland Pre-school service. This will be arranged with you once you have fully implemented the programme into your every day curriculum across three terms

The programme duration is 21 hours delivered over 7/8 weeks and this will include in-depth discussion about the assessment process and what providers will need to do to be recommended for the Healthy Ireland Award.

Portfolio Evidence collated to meet the requirements of becoming a Healthy Ireland Pre-school service may also be used as evidence to achieve Síolta validation and vice versa. Feedback from DES visits to services who have participated in the programme has been very positive

This programme requires definitive management sign on to support practitioners in implementation. Please communicate to your staff what will be required in terms of commitment. A help desk facility will be available to you throughout attendance at the training and following this, to guide you in implementation, policy and practice.

This programme offers pre-school providers the opportunity to demonstrate and build on existing good practice within their service. All units are easily adaptable into the curriculum and the resources associated with this programme have been given great praise from children, staff and parents.

The cost associated with engaging in this training programme is currently set at €40.00 which allows two people from each service to attend the training.

The Training Helpdesk is available throughout training and assessment to support practitioners engaging in this programme and tutors delivering the programme.
