Oral Health
Good oral health is extremely important for everyone, but it is particularly important for children who may have physical, sensory, medical, learning or behavioural disabilities/special needs.
Teeth are used mainly for:
1. eating
2. speaking
3. singing
4. smiling
Teeth can also be used to help us communicate in other ways. For example, they can be used by a person with a physical disability to hold objects that help them use a computer or write. Poor oral health can make all these things more difficult and can affect the general health, confidence and quality of life of the individual. It can also cause a lot of pain and distress, which a child with a disability may not be able to communicate.
